Many Groups such as Tommy James and the Shondels and Paul Revere and the Raiders turned down to play in this concert which was explained as a concert in upstate New York on a farm which did not seem inviting to many groups.   Other groups who did decide to attend had to be flyed in by helicopter due to the road ways were totally not passable . Many groups got there start from this festival.

You had your choice to buy a three day ticket or a one day ticket.
Do to the crowds it turned out no tickets were used.

WOODSTOCK 1969

The Woodstock concert never changed it name but it did not take place in upstate New York town of Woodstock but instead it took place at the upstate New York town of Bethel.   The town of Woodstock backed out of the concert with only thirty days before the concert . This gave the concert organizers a very short time to find a place and hen advertise the new location.

This was the show which broke the group named The Who into the main stream of Rock with their album Tommy

Richie Havens was the first act to go on stage and literally adlibbed the song Freedom.

THE POND-- Where people took baths.

The stage with the sound towers which people continued to climb up to get a better view of the show and were asked to get down each time.

When Jimi Hendrix finally appeared as the last performer there were only two -hundred people there to hear him play the famous star bangle banner on his guitar but then many saw it in the movie Woodstock.

One must remember this was during the Vietnam Conflict.
