HEY HEY WE'RE THE MONKEES!
NOT YET IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME?
The Monkees' tale is legendary. Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Mike Nesmith and Peter
Tork were plucked by fate from a mass casting call in 1965. Asked to portray a
zany rock band in the spirit of the Beatles' A Hard Day's Night, the quartet
went on to out-sell the Beatles and the Rolling Stones combined: more than 16
million albums between 1966 and 1968.

The Monkees were started in 1966 by NBC TV Network to show what was happening at
these changing times . Many people were interviewed for the jobs including Steven Stills,
Peter's friend, however Steven didn't get the job. Instead they picked Mickey, Davy, Mike,
and Peter and they went from a T.V. show to the world's most popular rock group and became
part of American Music history. In the beginning of their career many famous writers
helped them with such hits as "I Am a Believer",etc.

But after some critism of the boys not having input into the material, they decided to change that fact and made many other great songs such as "Shades of Gray" and "Words". I feel much of their later work is better than the beginning of their career. No matter how you feel about the group, I do not think that there is a person on earth who cannot sing "Daydream Believer"! One piece of trivia about the group is that if they did not take things into their own hands their next song would have been a song called Sugar ,Sugar!! The history of the group may have been very different but I feel they made alot of great music even by doing it themselves. At one point in music history the Monkees were more popular than the Beatles , if you could image this . They also attemped to become movie stars in their movie called HEAD

Even today , everyone enjoys watching them on their tv show and watching the great showmanship which this group had and still does great in concerts today!

THE MONKEES DELUXE EDITION
Originally released in 1966, The Monkees had an amazing
78-week run on the Billboard album chart. It includes the #1 hit "Last Train To
Clarksville" and the infectious "(Theme From) The Monkees," both written for the
band by hit songwriting team Boyce & Hart. Also features Goffin & King's "Take A
Giant Step" and David Gates' "Saturday's Child." Disc one's nine bonus tracks
include previously unreleased alternate mixes of "The Kind Of Girl I Could Love"
and "Papa Gene's Blues," plus a take of "I Don't Think You Know Me" featuring
Micky Dolenz on vocals. Disc two's eight bonus cuts include a previously
unreleased demo version of "Propinquity (I've Just Begun To Care)" and a rare
Kellogg's jingle.
MORE OF THE MONKEES DELUXE EDITION
1967's More Of The Monkees was the band's most successful album, becoming the third best-selling LP of the '60s (ranking higher than any Beatles album). The band topped the pop singles charts again with the Neil Diamond-penned "I'm A Believer." The album also features the Top 20 hit "(I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone" and the classic cut "She," both composed by Boyce & Hart. Twelve bonus tracks on disc one include an alternate mix of "I'm A Believer" and a version of "Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow)" that features Peter Tork's narration." Disc two's six bonus cuts include the first recorded version of "Valleri" "and a previously unreleased alternate mix of "Tear Drop City
HEADQUATERS DELUXE EDITION
The Monkees' third album, HEADQUARTERS, was also the group's third #1 record. Released in 1967 just as the Summer of Love was flowering, the album represents a watershed moment for the quartet. After a bitter fight for more creative control, the band members were finally allowed to pick the songs they sang and play on the songs they recorded. The band tracked 13 songs for the album including the Nesmith-penned single “The Girl I Knew Somewhere” (which was not originally included on the album), “Shades Of Gray,” “You Just May Be The One,” “Randy Scouse Git” and “For Pete's Sake,” a track later used as the closing theme to the band's Emmy-winning television show. Among the set's 21 bonus songs are several unreleased stereo remixes including “You Can't Tie A Mustang Down,” “If I Learn To Play The Violin” and “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You,” the #2 hit single written by Neil Diamond, plus demo versions of “Nine Times Blue,” “Midnight Train” and “Pillow Time.”
PISCES , AQUARIUS , CAPRICORN &
JONES LTD
DELUXE EDITION
Just before Thanksgiving 1967, The Monkees returned with
their fourth consecutive #1 album, PISCES, AQUARIUS, CAPRICORN & JONES LTD.
Generally considered as one of the band's finest, the album's 13 tracks include
the hit songs “Pleasant Valley Sunday” written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King
and “Words,” by the songwriting team of Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, who wrote
many of the band's biggest hits. The set's 14 bonus tracks feature unreleased
alternate mixes of “Star Collector,” “Salesman,” “Cuddly Toy” (a Harry Nilsson
song) and “Daily Nightly,” a song Nesmith wrote about the '66 riots on the
Sunset Strip. The bonus tracks also include the soulful “Goin' Down,” a track
that came together during a jam session and was based on the chord progression
of Mose Allison's “Parchment Farm.”
